Hubert Sumlin is among the greatest of all blues guitarists and his passing on December 4, 2011 was a tough blow to the blues, especially after so many other 2011 passings by Chicago Blues Legends (Pinetop Perkins. Honeyboy Edwards, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, and Mojo Buford were also among the year’s casualties). Special thanks to photographer Brain Smith for sharing these wonderful images of the late Hubert Sumlin. Brian took these photos at Free Trade Hall, Manchester , UK in 1964. Hubert was part of that year’s lineup of the touring American Folk Blues Festival which also included Howlin’ Wolf and Sunnyland Slim. Thanks Brian for these great images!
