Bob Corritore & Friends / Early Blues Sessions gets lots of love in its first week of being released!
Early Blues Sessions is a beautiful collection of songs from Bob’s vaults recorded between 1984 and 2007. Through the lens of time we can see how cherished this sound of the blues originators is! We’ve already received 16 (and counting) rave reviews of this album, which you can see by clicking here. The album was released on October 17 and it’s available wherever you buy your music! This is what Fred Delforge said in France’s Zicazic Magazine translated to English:
Bob Corritore is one of the greatest exponents of traditional blues. A deep-throated harmonica player and passionate producer, he has established himself as an archivist of the African-American musical soul. Since opening his club, the Rhythm Room in Phoenix in 1991, he has recorded a constellation of blues legends, often on the fringes of the commercial circuit, with a fidelity to raw sound and true emotion. With “Early Blues Sessions,” Bob Corritore opens a new door in his “From The Vault” series, dedicated to the buried treasures of his archives. This new opus, scheduled for release this fall, brings together sixteen tracks recorded between 1984 and 2007, including several previously unreleased or remixed tracks, capturing the essence of the blues in its most authentic form. This album is a living fresco, a vibrant tribute to the giants of the genre. It features the voices and instruments of Lowell Fulson (“West Texas Blues”), Little Milton (“I Want To Be The One”), Jimmy Rogers (“She Loves Another Man”), Robert Lockwood Jr. (“Naptown Blues”, “Ramblin’ On My Mind”), Sam Lay (“So Glad I’m Living”, “My Fault”), Henry Gray (“Showers Of Rain”), Pinetop Perkins, Chico Chism, Lil’ Ed, Tomcat Courtney, Clarence Edwards, King Karl and Jimmy Dotson. Each track is enveloped by Bob Corritore’s harmonica, discreet but essential, serving the vocals and groove with a rare humility. Far from seeking to demonstrate his talents, the harmonica player seeks instead to convey a rich history and to document an era when the blues was still played in smoky clubs, modest studios, sometimes following impromptu meetings. He takes the opportunity to give voice to artists who are too often forgotten and, with his vision as a producer-artisan, he offers us a formidable lesson in musical memory. A living archive, a celebration of the blues as a popular, rooted and universal art, to be recommended to lovers of pure blues, to musical history enthusiasts, and to all those who want to hear the sound of the roots!
– Fred Delforge
Thank you to everyone for the great response!

October 9, 2025 – Pinetop Homecoming In Clarksdale This Sunday, Birthday Recap, Upcoming Album And More!
This Sunday, Pinetop Perkins Homecoming in Clarksdale!
It was a rough year for the King Biscuit Blues Festival, who were able to overcome financial challenges to thankfully host their wonderful festival, although this year‘s version has fewer days and less stages. That being said, it came together, and it will once again make it’s powerful statement of presenting blues music in the historically important blues town of Helena, Arkansas, where Sonny Boy Williamson broadcast from radio station KFFA on the daily King Biscuit Time broadcasts. Following the festival each year is the customary Sunday meeting in nearby Clarksdale, Mississippi to honor the great Pinetop Perkins and his educational foundation. The event is called the Pinetop Homecoming and it takes place at Hobson’s Plantation where Pinetop grew up. This is a cause that is very dear to Bob Corritore who will be flying in to perform as part of a great lineup of musicians. We hope to see you there! For more info on the event and the foundation, go to pinetopperkinsfoundation.org.

Bob’s Chicago Blues Birthday Bash!

Oscar Wilson, who was scheduled was not able to attend for medical reasons but we’re happy to report that he’s back on track and recently performed last weekend in California! And we had so much talent scheduled for the birthday weekend that we presented a stunning show of powerful blues! I think that these photos capture the vibe!

Look out for this brilliant new release, which reflect on the days when blues giants walked the earth! Check out the amazing lineup. For your Grammy consideration!
This is somewhat of a ambitious honor. The first step of moving towards an actual Grammy nomination is to be on the consideration list. This list is huge, and only those that are eligible Grammy voters can participate. That being said, Bob Corritore has some serious contenders that we hope will advance from the long list to the short list!

Rhythm Room honored by the Phoenix New Times!

Congratulations Dr. Janice Johnston, new chair person for The Blues Foundation
Phoenix is so proud of our very own Dr. Janice Johnston who has always taken a leadership role in The Blues! In her own words:
“It is with great excitement, humility, and gratitude that I share the news of my new role as Chair of the Board of The Blues Foundation. This opportunity represents both a personal honor and a profound responsibility, one that I embrace wholeheartedly.
My journey with The Blues Foundation has been deeply meaningful. Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors and leading the HART Fund, which provides crucial financial and medical assistance to blues musicians and their families in times of need. Through these experiences, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible resilience of our artists, the generosity of our community, and the transformative power of the Blues. These moments have strengthened my commitment to ensuring that the Foundation continues to serve as a lifeline and a beacon of hope for the people who keep this music alive.
As I step into this role, I want to extend my deep gratitude to Terika Dean for her leadership as Chair. Terika has guided the Foundation with vision, steadiness, and heart, especially through complex challenges, and I am profoundly thankful for her dedication. I look forward to welcoming her ongoing insight and counsel as we continue this work together.
The Blues is a living tradition rooted in history, yet always evolving, and our mission must reflect both reverence for the past and boldness for the future. I am eager to work with my fellow board members, Kimberly Horton, president and CEO, our dedicated staff, and our passionate supporters to build on the Foundation’s strong legacy while embracing the opportunities ahead. Together, we will expand the reach of the Blues, nurture the next generation of artists, strengthen programs like Generation Blues and HART Fund, and celebrate the cultural heritage that has shaped so much of modern music.
I also want to emphasize how much I value the voices of our members, partners, and supporters. The strength of The Blues Foundation has always come from its community, and I welcome your ideas as we move forward with new collaborations, educational initiatives, audience development strategies, and creative ways to uplift artists and preserve our shared history.
The Blues has given us all so many stories of struggle and triumph, music that heals and inspires, and a community bound by love and respect. It is our responsibility to ensure that this art form continues to thrive for generations to come.
Thank you for your trust, your support, and your continued belief in the work of The Blues Foundation. I am truly honored to serve in this role, and I look forward to walking this journey with all of you guided by our mission, informed by our history, and inspired by the possibilities ahead.
Your financial support means so much to our mission.”

Much love for Willie Buck & Bob Corritore/Oh Yeah!
Willie and Bob are thrilled by the wonderful reception that their collaborative album has received! The great reviews keep coming in and the airplay has been strong! The people seem to ebrace and celebrate this album of old school Chicago blues with no-frills! To see the reviews that we’ve received, you can click here. And for example here is one of the wonderful reviews!
Blues Roadhouse (July 21, 2025)
This splendid album of traditional, old-school Chicago blues is yet another release from Bob Corritore’s masterful “From the Vaults” series, featuring artists he’s recorded over the years as they visited his Phoenix Rhythm Room club.
This album features the ageless voice of Chicago blues powerhoue Willie Buck, now 88 and still slinging the blues. Corritore’s relationship with Buck goes back to the late 1970s, when Buck invited him to join his Chicago band. Buck has since made regular visits to Corritore’s sweet home Phoenix, and recorded music like this. The tracks here come mainly from three Arizona sessions from 2021 to 2023.
The tough-enough blues aggregation backing Buck’s gritty pipes includes former Muddy Waters guitarist Bob Margolin, Corritore regular Jimi “Primetime” Smith, Chicago’s Billy Flynn, pianists Anthony Geraci and Ben Levin, veteran bassist Bob Stroger and drummer Wes Starr, plus assorted guests. And of course, Corritore’s harp soars throughout.
Together, this blues-driven band and Buck bring some great old music, including songs by Waters and Buck, whose songwriting chops carry their own considerable weight.
For the opener, though, they reach back nearly 70 years to 1958 for the churning title track, “Oh Yeah,” by Bo Diddley. It’s deep blues driven hard by ferocious guitar and blazing harp, with Buck rolling out the lyrics. Waters’ 1968 hypnotic “She’s Alright” roars in next, with an especially tough Buck vocal. “That Ain’t Enough,” with Margolin and Smith dazzling on guitar, is the first of Buck’s originals.
“Brand New Cell Phone” shuffles in with Geraci’s rock-steady piano backing and Corritore’s razor-sharp harp. “Money Can’t Buy Everything” is a Flynn contribution, with a whimsical lyric, easily captured by Buck’s vocal prowess. “Went Home This Morning” features piercing Corritore harp throughout, swirling around Buck’s tough vocal, decorated by some great guitar.
Scorching slide guitar permeates Buck’s torchy “She Turned Me Down,” a deeply felt slow blues built for belt-polishing close dancing. “Baby Please Don’t Go” is a Waters’ classic rocked hard by Buck and the band. “Me And My Baby” features Flynn on wicked slide guitar.
The closer is the slow-blues scorcher, “Let Me Find Out Your Name,” with the band cranking out a fierce blues concerto behind Buck’s steamy vocals. It’s a breathtaking masterpiece, which Buck seems to realize as it all wraps up, happily proclaiming: “Let’s leave it like that … I don’t think I could do it again.”
You can do it again, though, by giving this album a well-deserved spot on your old-school curriculum. “Oh Yeah” is Chicago blues at its glorious best. Blessings on Corritore for doing his best to keep this classical American music alive and well. Very well, indeed!
– Jim White

Jimi Primetime Smith’s new release receives a warm reception.
Congratulations to Jimi Primetime Smith for his wonderful album It’s My Time. Jimi is Bob Corritore‘s closest collaborator. And Bob guests on three of the album’s songs, one of which (She’s A Peach) got high honors in the Roots Music Report. Thank you, Jimi!

More love for Willie Buck & Bob Corritore/Oh Yeah!
Willie Buck and Bob are very happy with the reception that their new album has received! It just made #2 in the French Power Blues Chart! To see all of the rave reviews we have received so far, click here. And by the way, Willie Buck just won a Blues Blues Blast Music Award! And check out the English translation of a fantastic review just published from the September 15 issue of Blues News Finland:
The new Willie Buck & Bob Corritore joint album could be started with the same kind of praise as the previous John Primer. In this case, Bob Corritore has been praised in Blues News, deservedly, and quite rightly, and so here too. To start, I took a look at the Blues News index to satisfy my curiosity and refresh my memory (which is often necessary these days) and to see that Corritore’s own and his friends’ albums have been released in BN over the past five years, no less than 17. Hardly a single one of them has been criticized. I have participated in the praises myself 10 times.
Now, in Bob Corritore’s vault, ten recordings have been found with the easygoing vocalist Willie Buck, who has visited Finland a couple of times and systematically plays at Chicago’s blues clubs. Three of the recording sessions date back to 2021-23. The only exception is the unique blues jaunt Went Home This Morning, recorded in 2010 and placed halfway through the CD, composed by Buck himself. Corritore’s song sounds more like the Lazy Lester-Slim Harpo school than Chicago. The song also has a completely different backing band than the other nine tracks on the CD. The album’s main backing band includes Bob Margolin, who mainly focuses on slide on six tracks, and top guitarist Billy Flynn on three tracks. The rest of the band consists of iconic bassist Bob Stroger, drummer Wes Starr, and Anthony Geraci and Ben Levin, who alternate on piano. So there is a lot of quality.
The album’s opening title track Oh Yeah is borrowed from Bo Diddley himself, and then She’s Alright is offered from Muddy Waters. Baby Please Don’t Go is not originally Muddy’s, although the cover claims so. The band’s interpretation is, however, very “muddy-like”. Buck himself has written six songs, all of them calmly traditional Chicago blues, to which his gentle, flowing but at the same time catchy singing voice fits perfectly.
Let’s repeat again just to be sure that the album is specifically about Chicago blues in all its glory. During Buck’s singing, Corritore is perhaps the most central accompanist and also strongly present with his solos, as the name of the album would certainly suggest. One could suggest the adjectives “primitive*, “scratchy” or even “snotty” for Margolin’s slide guitar playing. At least if we take as a comparison Billy Flynn’s completely different, beautifully painted, and vividly reminiscent of Earl Hooker’s gliding on the album’s nearly 8-minute slow closing blues Let Me Find Out Your Name.
Corritore’s melodically growling chromatic harp hits this slow narrative like its famous nose on the head. Bob Corritore, the harmonica player, producer wizard and archival treasure hunter, has succeeded this time too. In the same breath, it must be noted that the CD’s running time is only a sweaty 39 minutes, which suggests that the vaults are empty. Go and find out, the near future will tell. In any case, the fact that the previous John Primer’s new album is both stylistically pure, in execution and production, is a country-like album of the frighteningly disappearing resource called traditional Chicago blues.
– Pertti Nurmi

September 19, 2025 – Single Release Today, Upcoming Birthday Extravaganza, Pinetop Perkins Homecoming And More!
Out today! New single release! Bob Corritore‘s wonderful collaboration with Little Milton from 2002.
Today is the release of the new single featuring a 2002 studio collaboration with the legendary Little Milton with a song called I Want To Be The One. Milton wrote this beautiful song specifically for our session. It feels like this song is the perfect link between his Mississippi roots and his later blues/soul style. If this came out as a 45 in the mid 1970s, I can imagine that it would be on all of the jukeboxes at all the Chicago blues bars. I look forward to everybody hearing it. Also appearing as part of the studio band for this song were Henry Gray and Chico Chism. Little Milton is in great voice and his guitar tone on this song is spectacular! I think you’ll also enjoy my harmonica contributions. Available on all streaming on September 19. This will be the single from the forthcoming album BC & Friends/Early Blues Sessions out on October 17. Here is a purchase link for the single and to pre-order the upcoming album: https://lnk.to/BCearly

We hope to see you at the show.

Much love for Willie Buck & Bob Corritore/Oh Yeah!
Thank you everyone for the great reception to the collaboration album of Willie Buck & Bob Corritore. The album has been out since June and great reviews and AirPlay reports keep coming in! This is an album of deep Chicago blues with an All-Star cast that includes Bob Margolin, Billy Flynn, Jimi Primetime Smith, Bob Stroger, Anthony Geraci, Ben Levin and Wes Starr. Recent accolades have come in this week from ABS Magazine (France), IL BLUES (Italy), B-Man’s Blues Report (USA), and Soul Bag Mag (France)! To see all of the reviews that we’ve received so far, click here! Here is a translated version of the review from ABS magazine:
Released last June, this album is part of Bob Corritore’s “From the Vaults” series, a collection of remarkable recordings captured and carefully archived by the harmonica player, to highlight the blues greats he has worked with throughout his career. The two friends have known each other for many years; Willie Buck invited Corritore to join his band in Chicago in the mid-1970s, and they have continued to collaborate ever since. Recorded between 2021 and 2023 with a true dream team including Bob Margolin, Billy Flynn, Jimi “Primetime” Smith, Ben Levin, and Bob Stroger, this session is a success from start to finish. The repertoire alternates between original compositions like That Ain’t Enough, Brand New Cell Phone, and Me and My Baby, and covers inspired by standards by Bo Diddley (Oh Yeah!), Muddy Waters (She’s Alright) and Big Joe Williams (Baby Please Don’t Go). Each track breathes the sound of the Windy City, Buck’s voice, still inhabited despite the weight of years, blends with the incisive harmonica of Corritore, who masters his art to perfection. Oh Yeah! is more than an album: it’s a wonderful testimony. We hear the echo of the great masters, but also proof that Chicago Blues, in the hands of its heirs, remains a living force, which has not finished moving us. Once again, Bob Corritore impresses, drawing from his precious archives, he signs a series which, with brilliance and sincerity, testifies to his inexhaustible passion which drives him to keep the Blues alive. Highly recommended. – Jean-Luc Vabres

Willie Buck & Bob Corritore/Oh Yeah gathers acclaim!
The collaboration of Willie Buck and Bob Corritore has found numerous fans who appreciate it’s no nonsense approach to presenting a straight Chicago blues album! The album has just debuted on the Living Blues Radio Carts at #12! To see the growing list of positive reviews, click here. Here is a translated review from La Hora Del Blues from Barcelona, Spain:
What a pleasure to listen to this authentic Chicago blues album by two great musicians: Bob Corritore and Willie Buck! This album takes us back to the golden age of Chicago blues in the 1950s and 1960s, thanks to two consummate masters of the genre.
A tireless worker, a blues enthusiast, and an institution in the world of this genre, Bob Corritore never ceases to amaze us with impressive albums that are true gems for fans. This time, he does so alongside Willie Buck, one of the last old-school singers who for over forty years has been one of the greats of the city’s music scene, leading his band that has featured names like Louis Myers, Eddie Taylor, Sammy Lawhorn, Magic Slim, Byther Smith, Johnny “Big Moose” Walker, and Big Leon Brooks.
Bob and Willie met in the late 1970s when Willie invited Bob to join his band. They worked together for a few years and when Bob moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in the 1980s, their friendship continued, and they have reunited at least once a year to play together and record. This album is a magnificent example of the feeling that develops between the two musicians when they come together to make their own old Chicago blues songs that convey the essence, substance, and character of songs that touch the depths of your soul.
Ten stunning blues songs make up this album, part of Bob Corritore’s extensive collection and recorded in three sessions between 2021 and 2023, except for one track recorded in 2010. The album features top-notch musicians such as Bob Stroger on bass, Bob Margolin on guitar on six tracks, guitarists Jimi Primetime Smith, Billy Flynn, Mojo Mark, and Jon Atkinson, pianists Anthony Geraci and Ben Levin, drummers Wes Starr and Brian Fahey, and finally Troy Sandow on bass on one track.
Nowadays, when innovation, refined technique, and experimentation in new fields and sounds prevail in the blues, coming across an album like this is pure delight and proves that the blues doesn’t need grand flourishes but rather authenticity to convey that feeling that only the masters of the genre know how to communicate with just a few notes. Bob Corritore hasn’t come to innovate, but rather the opposite; he’s here to perpetuate, and in these times, this is something very necessary.
– Vicente Zumel

Billy Branch, who was originally scheduled as the instructor, will be attending a special ceremony in Washington DC where he will receive the great honor of a Taproot Fellowship. A huge congratulations to Billy Branch! Bob has been involved in the Pinetop Foundation for years in it’s fundraising efforts and he was both a friend and professional associate of the late Pinetop Perkins. Bob looks forward to sharing his 55 years experience in playing harmonica with his students. What is also exciting is that the young blues master Harrell Davenport will be the Harmonica intern and will also assist Bob in instruction.
For more information about the workshop, click here.

Doin’ The Shout Accolades!
It’s very gratifying that the album Bob Corritore & Friends/Doin’ The Shout has remained in high profile. DTS debuted in the Living Blues Charts in January at #15 and then in both February and March it charted at #2. And SiriusXM Bluesville have given strong rotation to Bob’s featured collaboration with Bobby Rush, I’ve Got Three Problems. Great reviews continue to appear, and you can see them all listed by clicking here. We would like to feature the English translation from Brazil’s Todo Dia Um Blues review from April 8:
Bob Corritore: the harmonica player with the perfect collaborations
If you like classic blues, a snazzy wind and a smoky barroom soul, Bob Corritore is a name that should have been on your playlist for a long time. A producer, a great harmonica player and an essential figure in the modern Chicago Blues scene, Bob is the kind of guy who, when he appears in the credits, you know something good is coming.
And he never stops. In February of this year, he released another album: “Bob Corritore and Friends – Doin’ the Shout”, a true celebration of the blues in its most lively, organic and groovy form.
Who is Bob Corritore, anyway?
Born in Chicago in 1956, Bob had his first contact with the harmonica at the age of 12, when he heard none other than Muddy Waters. That was enough to light the flame. In his youth, he immersed himself in the city’s blues circuit, playing with legends such as Louis and Dave Myers, Willie Dixon and Pinetop Perkins.
But it was when he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, that Bob became a fundamental part of the contemporary blues scene. There he founded the Rhythm Room, a legendary concert venue that has hosted the great names of the genre. In addition to being a musician, Bob is also a producer and curator of projects that rescue that raw and visceral sound of roots blues.
The Sound of a True Collaborator
If there’s one thing that defines Bob Corritore’s style, it’s partnership. He’s a master at bringing together legendary musicians to create collective albums that sound like studio sessions from the 1950s, with that spontaneous, soulful, and unhurried vibe.
His albums are like sonic feasts: each track features a different vocalist, a distinct groove, but everything is tied together by his expressive and unmistakable harmonica.
“Doin’ the Shout!”: A Celebration of the Blues
Released on February 28, 2025, “Doin’ the Shout!” is a vibrant collection of 12 tracks that showcase Bob’s ability to bring together exceptional talent to create authentic and moving music. The album was recorded in 2023 and 2024 at Tempest Recording in Tempe, Arizona, under the direction of Clarke Rigsby.
Album Highlights
“Say Baby Say”: The opening track features the powerful vocals of Thornetta Davis, accompanied by Johnny Burgin on guitar and Dave Keyes on piano. The infectious energy of this song sets the stage for the rest of the album.
“Woman Wanted”: Here, Oscar Wilson takes over on vocals, with Bob Margolin gliding on slide guitar and Anthony Geraci on piano, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of classic Chicago blues.
“Doin’ the Shout!”: The title track is a lively celebration with Nora Jean on vocals, delivering a lively performance that encapsulates the spirit of the album.
“I’ve Got Three Problems”: Bobby Rush shines on this track, bringing his signature style and signature humor, while Dexter Allen adds engaging guitar riffs.
“That Don’t Appease Me”: Thornetta Davis returns with an intense performance, backed by Johnny Burgin on guitar and Mark Earley on baritone sax, adding an extra layer of sonic depth.
Why listen to it?
Because this album is blues at its finest, played by someone who has been breathing the genre for decades. For those who enjoy traditional blues, expressive harmonica, great collaborations and that jam session vibe with friends who just want to play with soul, this album is a sure thing.

Pat Thomas R.I.P.
Mississippi blues artist Pat Thomas passed away unexpectedly last Saturday at his home in Leland. He was 64 years old. Pat Thomas was the embodiment of the original rural Mississippi delta blues sound. He learned that sound directly from his father, Son Thomas. Pat performed regularly over at the Highway 61 Blues Museum. His recorded legacy consists of two full albums: Beef Steak Blues on Wolf Records and His Father’s Son on Broke And Hungry Records. Additionally Bob Corritore did a six song recording session with Pat last October, recorded at Clarksdale Soundstage. Some of those tracks will come out next year. Special thanks to Pat’s manager Billy Johnson, who lovingly looked after his friend. We say goodbye to a true Bluesman, whose sound is all but lost in today’s more contemporary blues world. Pat Thomas was a truly kind and talented man who will be greatly missed.
